Ray's Story

by Ray (age 11) | Partner Organization: The Sing Me a Story Foundation

Once upon a time, there was a busy country house where Mom, Dad, and all the brothers lived together with more animals than anyone could count. They had two dogs named Brutus and Sadie, two cats named Rue and Oreo, a bearded dragon named Coconut, a crested gecko named Peach, a fish tank full of fish, two horses named Shooter and Legs, two guinea pigs named John Pork and Sassy Pig, two geese named Bevis and Goose, ducks including Kendrick, turkeys, and chickens named Sergeant Pecker, Dr. Pecker, Francisco, Sandy Cheeks, Little Richard, and Pants, who had very fluffy feather legs and feet. There were also quails, especially one important quail named Laura. One morning, the family sat down for breakfast. Ray was eating French toast, bacon, and sausage. Cal was eating peas and pancakes. Luke was eating eggs. Enzo was eating eggs and bacon. Mom and Dad were also eating eggs and bacon. Under the table, Brutus and Sadie sat perfectly still, staring up with hopeful eyes. Ray and Cal secretly dropped them food when no one was looking. Ray glanced out the window and froze. Outside stood a tiny chicken with no feathers at all, shivering in the cold. It was Shaky, a chicken who was always nervous and always shaking. It turned out someone had shaved Shaky! Now they had a serious problem. They needed a chicken sweater. They went to a small store nearby, but there were none. Then they went to a giant Tractor Supply store that was as big as a mall. They searched for an entire hour before finally finding the chicken sweater section. They bought a sweater and rushed home. When they got back, Shaky was gone. They searched the barn, but he was not there. They rode their horses through the neighborhood, but still no Shaky. They checked under cars and everywhere else they could think of. At last, they found Shaky in the woods, sitting in a tree. Luke flew his model airplane up into the tree, trying to help Shaky jump onto it. Instead, Shaky jumped away and started running. Everyone chased him until they finally caught him and put the sweater on. Suddenly, Cal ran up, ripped the sweater off, tore it into pieces, grabbed Shaky, and ran away shouting, “Long live Lieutenant Feather Bottom!” No one could believe it. Cal, had betrayed them!
The family followed a trail of feathers they found in the forest that led to a hidden lair. Inside was Sergeant Pecker’s evil twin, Lieutenant Feather Bottom. Standing beside him was Cal. Cal was a double agent. Behind Cal and Lieutenant Feather Bottom was an army of chickens and one giant goose. Ready to fight. Lieutenant Feather Bottom had been collecting feathers for years. He had over thirty thousand feathers, taken by shaving chickens just a little, letting the feathers grow back, and shaving them again. He even had fur from Brutus. Lieutenant Feather Bottom paid Cal five thousand feathers to sneak into his Mom’s room, take her razor, and shave Shaky’s feathers off. Cal had been successful and he planned to use his payment to make feather pens which he would sell to rich people for five thousand dollars each. The family couldn’t believe their eyes, but they had to save Shaky and stop Lieutenant Feather Bottom. An epic battle began. The Ray, Lucas, and Enzo used nets to stop the army of chickens. They threw them on top of them. Then, they dog piled on top of the giant goose together. Someone threw a net, and the goose was captured. Lieutenant Feather Bottom tried to fly away, but Ray fired a net gun. He was caught and fell from the sky. When no one was looking Cal ran away at five hundred miles per hour. The family worked together to bring all of the captured chickens (and the goose) back to their farm to live with them. They even brought Lieutenant Feather Bottom along and gave him a home. Little did they know, late that night, Cal secretly returned and hid in the lair, waiting for his chance to strike again. Someday soon, he would raise a quail army, led by Secret Agent Laura the Quail. The End
